The Black Keys – Just Got to Be

Among other things, one of the reasons I resent The White Stripes is for encouraging a stadium’s worth of bands who’ve decided that dynamic duo outdoes power-trio, or even the venerable rock quartet.  I’m not sure I agree, as there’s a lot to be said for you know, bass and rhythm.

However, I will say that I’ve so far enjoyed The Black Keys’ fairly authentic style of raw blues and rock.  Here’s “Just Got to Be” off of last year’s ‘Magic Potion’ LP

They shot this video at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, even the monkey should appreciate a NE Ohio band done good, that sticks to it’s roots, and beard that look like Galifianakis.

Over the course of the last year I’ve made it to Cleveland exactly twice.  I need to rectify that.  I suppose I also need to see a live show, since it’s been well over a year for that as well.

I told you these guys would be awesome.

They are four albums deep BTW, if you wish to hear more than Magic Potion.

Funny thing is I see myself putting magic potion in more than any other…..

It does concentrate and sharply define the style they were grasping at in the earlier albums.

It seems I am the most metal loving person around here, so I have to say I am very proud that AM likes these guys, as they indeed are as metal as blues rockers can be.  Which is a fucking lot.

I find myself listening to Magic Potion more than the others as well, but I think the first album is still my favorite. I got to see them a couple of years ago at the Beachland, which is my all time favorite small venue ever. I just hope they keep on.

    Hells yea, TBK rock!

their live set is amazing. I would recommend their concert DVD to anyone who has ears.

I’ve seen them 4 times now, and once at the beachland where they shot this video. It’s by far my favorite place to see a show. And they are really great live, a lot of energy and a lot of fun.

I’ve seen them 3 times, twice in Chapel Hill, NC and once in DC.

The DC show was insane they played like 3 encores!

The next time they come to New York/New Jersey I am definately there.
