NicoleOne of my favorite aspects of running this little monster I call Transbuddha is the shared joy in discovering new artists, but even better (in my mind) is when you share great finds with me. Reader Andrew DeGolyer sent in a heads-up regarding New Jersey native Nicole Atkins & the Sea, whose sound almost defies description (although I do like the ring of ‘pop-noir’ as described in her bio).

Here’s her video for ‘Neptune City‘, a song about her hometown, which (to my mind) sounds like something David Lynch would have used for ‘Twin Peaks’. Atkin’s voice calls to mind a smoky lounge singer of a decidedly non-modern stripe (as does her indie beehive ‘do), so I’m going to chalk her up in the ‘holy crap, people are really singing again’ column.

For more info and media, you might try her official site , or her oddly pretty MySpace page.
