The Evolution of Sugar Bear

sugar-bear.jpgI’ll admit it: My hands down favorite cereal mascot has always been Sugar Bear. For one, his name is Sugar Bear, for crying out loud. And two, there’s that great Bing Crosby voice singing “can’t get enough super golden crisp, it’s got the crunch with punch!” Now, let’s be honest: How many of you just sang that in your head?

Anyway, A Sampler of Things has a great set of artwork detailing the artistic evolution of Sugar Bear (or Super Bear, as they stupidly changed his name in the late 80’s), and it’s a wonderful look at how the character has changed from his humble beginnings in the 50’s.

For audio Sugar Bear fun, the Children’s Records & More blog has a link to the the 1972 “Introducing the Sugar Bears” tie-in album which, I’m not afraid to say is actually kind of awesome.

Thanks to Bedazzled for the find.
