Mahatma Gandhi, the Missing Laureate

GandhiWith all this brouhaha over Al Gore winning the Noble Peace Prize (yes, I think it’s deserved), it’s worth looking at a man who never won the Nobel Peace Prize even with 5 monimations: Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi’s last nomination was submitted just a few days prior to his murder. The prize was awarded to no one that year, presumably because it would have gone to Gandhi, but there’s still an interesting history behind his lack of recognition by the august organization.

For further reading, I’d suggest at least a read through on Gandhi’s Wikipedia entry, as it’s a interesting document of the man in and of itself.
