You know, if there’s anything I’ve learned from watching the Bourne movies, it’s that America looks like complete crap compared to Europe. With some notable exception, our architecture just completely sucks.
Then of course there’s the notion that we’re only #3 in the World’s Tallest Building contest (The Sears Tower gets outranked by Taipei 101 and the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lampur, both of which are going to be shoved down the list by the Burj Dubai, which is set to be completed in 2009)
Now it seems that Russia has decided to throw down in the massive building contest, as the Crystal Island project will take the cake as the world’s largest building, as it will encompass a whopping 27 million square feet.. Designed by Sir Norman Foster, this ‘city within a building’ will cost around 4 billion, and 1500 ft tall structure is set to house 900 apartments, 3000 hotel rooms, an international school, a sports complex, a theater, cinema and more.
That’s just cool.
