NYE In Germany: "Dinner For One"

I would like to take a moment to stop my incessant futurist rantings and ravings to bring you a video [I know, shocker]. A few years ago (ok, almost a decade now; god I feel older all the time) I spent NYE in Germany, and witnessed the most bizarre nation-wide tradition: “Dinner For One“. This little 10 minute teleplay is aired over and over, in English, throughout New Year’s Eve, and everyone watches it. They sell shirts with catchphrases on them, it’s even entered in The Guiness Book of World Records as the most repeated TV show ever. I do not know how it got started, but it is what it is. Thanks to Mental Floss for reminding me of the weirdness I witnessed all those years ago.
