Huckabee Girl

I was waiting for someone to finally make a decent parody of the awful Obama Girl clip, and leave it to Super Deluxe to deliver. Behold the wonder of Huckabee Girl.

While I’m on the subject: I’ve seen a couple of opinion pieces about how Mike Huckabee is so casually mocked for his faith by otherwise enlightened liberals, but here’s the rub: Huckabee doesn’t get mocked for having faith. He’s mocked for his outrageous ideas. (AIDS camps, homosexuality, women’s rights, etc). While certain elements use this to decry the Left as intolerant, I feel compelled to point out that tolerance of the intolerant is the death knell for liberty. Obviously a racist, sexist, homophobe has the right to say whatever the hell they want, but it’s the duty of a civilized society to respond to those comments with the appropriate response: scorn and ridicule.

“While certain elements use this to decry the Left as intolerant, I feel compelled to point out that tolerance of the intolerant is the death knell for liberty”

Ergo, let’s be intolerant of the intolerant! Ridiculous logic.

Hey, but thanks for playing the game.

No, ridiculous logic is being so tolerant of intolerance that there is now a supposed debate* over Creationism vs. Evolution, when there should be none, damaging both our credibility in the world and the education system. It’s ridiculous to not only ignore sexist, homophobic, and anti-scientific rhetoric from a presidential candidate, but to downplay it in the media so as to not to offend those who agree with him.

Frown campaigns (meaning displaying your disgust at such comments) are effective, and don’t resort to calling for censorship or speech suppression (which I most certainly don’t advocate). Or do you think the best logic is to just smile and nod along with a Fred Phelps until he goes away?

*I qualify the term ‘debate’, because it’s not a debate when one side’s argument comes down to ‘It’s magic’. That’s almost, but not quite, as valid as the kid who crosses his fingers and says ‘shield’s when playing cops and robbers.
