Hurricane Katrina prompted $10.5 billion dollars in aid to New Orleans.
Bear Stearns financial flame-out netted them $30 billion in government aid.
To be sure, that’s not an apples to apples comparison. The incestuous relationship of the financial sector is such that one such failure like Bear Sterns could have catastrophic results among its interconnected peers. So I get that, but it doesn’t soften the shock.
