Hell's iPod

Bolus collects a sampling of what surely must be playing over the loudspeakers in Hell’s waiting room in the post ‘Hell’s iPod‘. Because we’re pals, I’ll just go ahead and include this little chestnut of audio evil:

Captain & Tenille – Muskrat Love

By all means, check out the rest of Hell’s iPod.

I think this is all the more awesome for the horrendous effects added to the performance. Where, Hollywood, where is our collected Captain and Tenille Show DVD set? Get that shit on the shelves, STAT.

Interesting note: The Captain’s (aka Daryl Dragon) is the son of famed conductor Carmen Dragon, and older to Dennis Dragon, co-founder of the influential Surf Punks. You know, with a last name light ‘Dragon’, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out they were a family of musical ninjas.

You know, my folks say they sang this in front of Queen Elizabeth. At the time, there were a lot of people who thought this was a terrible choice, not because it was considered a bad song (and it really isn’t; for a cute little novelty song to hear every now and again I prefer it to, say, Crocodile Rock), but because of the content.

But the Queen, being a sensible woman with a sense of humour who isn’t as out of touch with the universe as most people like to believe (see our own president for a better example), pretty much shot down the naysayers and listened to Muskrat Love live.

Crap, “they” in the first sentence being Captain and Tennille, not my parents. Context, sheesh.

Your parents are indeed correct: They performed Muskrat Love (among other tunes) for the Queen (at the White House, no less) at the invitation of Betty Ford.

I will hold for all eternity that their version of ‘Love Will Keep Us Together’ is one of the best pop songs ever.
