October 2008

Eric Melin goes it alone in this, the first-ever, one-man on-camera review in the history of Scene-Stealers. Kevin Smith’s “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks is reviewed by Eric, who has come under fire lately for not having enough of a female perspective. Find out what all the fuss is about Kevin Smith’s “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.” Was it really too explicit for some theaters? Is the movie as dirty as its banned movie posters? Did Eric even notice that there was porno-style sex in the movie?

Find out in this Scene-Stealers On-Camera Review of “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.”:

I was going to wait to post these until I resumed my normal schedule, but they’re just too wonderful to keep from you for so long…

Yesterday my Tumblr feeds were awash with clips from Jim Henson’s memorial service, and I gotta say: Even with 18 years of adjusting to life in a Jim Henson-less world, these clips brought tears to my eyes my last night. Even more amazing was that they brought tears to my eyes as I was describing them to my wife this morning. It’s arguable that Henson’s work influenced my childhood more than any other creator (Yah, that includes George Lucas), and even now those childhood joys still capable of eliciting the same response in my decidedly grayer self tend to be Muppet related.

So with that in mind take a slice of your day to remember Jim Henson, a man who left an indelible mark upon so many of our lives.

Big Bird (as voiced/puppeteer’d by Caroll Spinney) singing ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’:

Watch it, or hit the jump for tributes from Richard Hunt, Frank Oz, and the rest of the great Muppet cast and crew.

I’ll warn you.. get a hanky ready.

Folks, I know I’ve been a No-Post Ned of late and that bears some explanation:

This weekend I’ll be hauling the totality of Casa del Mono’s belongings 800 miles back to the loving arms of Kansas City, MO. As you might imagine the combination of a full time job, packing up a house, and dealing with the terror twins leaves little time for Transbuddha fun for yours truly. As it stands my current desk is comprised of a folding table and a filled reinforced dishpack moving box, so I’ll beg your understanding in my lack of enthusiasm for gleaning those net nuggets of joy for your amusement.

Rest assured that once things settle back down (which I estimate to be about the 1st of November) I’ll be back in the swing of things, filling up your day with distracting links, awesome videos, and short films about Pizza Robots and the like.

Because there’s no reason not to:

halloween michael myersThe score to a horror movie can be the most essential thing sometimes. It sets the mood, the pace, everything. A great score can even make a bad horror movie seem semi-decent if the music is scary enough. Try putting these themes on a Halloween mix for trick-or-treaters this year if you want to keep all your candy. Next week, we’ll do another user-submitted Top 10 (email me your idea at info@scene-stealers.com if you got one!), but for now, enjoy my list of the Top 10 Scariest Movie Themes.
