Picking the Oscars almost a month early

slumdog millionaire sag winnerIt’s never been easier! Yeah, OK, I know I’m getting a little bit cocky here, but it seems like there will be very few surprises come February 22, when Hugh Jackman hosts the 81st Academy Awards telecast. We’ve got virtually a month between now and then, and usually I save my picks until the week before the show so I can take into consideration any seismic cultural shifts. But this year, most races seem to be completely wrapped up already. Maybe this has something to do with the cold, hard facts I’ve been gathering since awards season started early last month.

Either way, I’m prepared to go out on a limb and offer these predictions. It will be interesting to see if they change at all as the awards get closer. My feeling is “not so much.” You can test your inner Nostradamus against mine soon, as we will be posting the 2nd Annual Scene-Stealers Online Oscar Pick ’em Contest for 2009 soon!
