Captain America #50 – Happy Birthday Buck! Nice little “this is your life” story setting the table for next issue (#600, as they return to the original numbering). Nothing real special, but some fine moments. Now what I’m wondering is if the next issue will pull a Joss Whedon, now that he has everything, and yank the rug out from under poor Bucky with a death, a return, or both? Oh, and, um, isn’t that version of Ms. Marvel supposed to be, you know, dead?
Battle for the Cowl #3 (of 3) – Well that was pretty damn anticlimactic. We get a throwdown between the two former Robins, a possible reason for Jason Todd’s recent level of insanity (finally giving a least the distant possibility of redemption for the character), hints about the identity of the new Black Mask, and the slightest tease of our new Batman. I give Marvel huge credit in Bucky’s transformation into the new Captain America, but this DC attempt at something similar, at least so far, has dropped the ball. However, Gotham’s still a mess and there’s plenty for the new Caped Crusader to do; I’m hoping things pick-up a bit now that Dick’s donned the cowl. Nightwing has grown-up a little in these issues, now let’s see him grow into his new role.
Herogasm #1 (of 6) – Garth Ennis is a very bad man. Want to know what the super-hero community does when they say they are leaving the planet to stop an alien invasion? Well, it turns out they all hit the South Pacific for the mother of all super-orgies. Yeah, he went there. You’re gonna’ be feeling pretty dirty after reading this one, but, dammit, it’s a hell of a lot of fun! However, if the big blue dong made you squeamish in Watchmen, you’ll probably want to stay away from this one which is aimed strictly for adults and is definitely not for the kiddies! I’ll say it one more time, Garth Ennis is a very bad man.
