The reboot to Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street finally has a trailer. Starting out with “produced by Michael Bay” didn’t fill me with much confidence, but the trailer does seem to get at least a little of the feel of the original right. The new version starring Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Thomas Dekker, Katie Cassidy, Connie Britton and Clancy Brown, is scheduled to hit theaters on April 30th of next year.

I have to say that I’ve actually been enjoying all the old school horror remakes. Most people don’t like them because they say they’re rediculous, but if you ask me the orginals where ridiculous to begin with.

The older ones do have a plus in that their “older”. The film and cinema techeques of old give an added spookieness to them. And of course they are the ORIGINALS. We wouldn’t have the remakes without them.

The newer ones I like because the acting is usually of a higher calibur. I know I might get some arguements on this one, but the acting the originals is hardly better than that of late 70’s porn flick (for the most part).

Another thing I like about the remakes is there is a lot of experimenting with the atmosphere. Things such as general setting props and extreme lighting weren’t as good “back in the day”. Some will say that the lack of quality in those areas of the original lends to the fright factor, but for me the newer ones are more immersive because of it.

Long story short… I’m looking forward to it. Although I’ll probably wait to watch it alone in the darkness of my own home rather than go see it in the theather. Nothing removes me from the movie going experience more than hearing someone shout, “Oh nah girl, DON’T go up them steps! He’s hiding behind the door of the bathroom!”

Wow… Please excuse all of my spelling errors! Like I always say, “You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning!”
