G'night Captain Lou

Although I hadn’t thought of him in years, I was saddened to hear of the death of Captain Lou Albano. The WWE Hall of Famer was staple of the World Wrestling Federation for decades. With his wild hair, trademark Hawaiian shirt and rubber bands, Lou was one of wrestling’s more colorful characters. By the end of his career, Albano managed over 50 different wrestlers who won two dozen titles.

Lou had a career outside the ring as well. Both animated and in real life Captain Lou also made several appearances on the tube including the Saturday morning cartoon Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling, Miami Vice, and also playing the part of Mario on the short-lived Super Mario Bros. Super Show. You might also remember him from Cyndi Lauper’s music video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.”

G’night Captain Lou.

Wow, Captain Lou was very stern about drugs. I totally loved the Super Show when I was a kid, so I was pretty sad to hear about this…

He will be missed. I loved watching the early days of the showy “wrestling” and was an big fan of the Super Mario bro’s show.
