A few tidbits from the past couple of weeks…

ms marvel 47

Ms. Marvel #47 – Must-read. Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man go on a date. What? Like you need to know more to pick this one up! The issue pulls out an old classic as, like all outings in the Marvel Universe, things don’t go quite as planned when the pair get attacked at dinner. I don’t know if this relationship is going to go anywhere, but even though I’m not Carol Danvers biggest fan I’m interesting to see where this pairing might lead. [Marvel $2.99]

doctor horrible issue 1

Dr. Horrible #1 – Worth a look. If Buffy can find her way into comics why not Dr. Horrible? Based off his own internet sensation Joss Whedon takes the opportunity to give us a comic version of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Humor of the short right. Here we get Billy’s inspiration to become a villain, his first meeting with Captain Hammer (which doesn’t go so well), and plenty of other fun along the way. If you’re a fan of the characters you’ll definitely want to seek this one out. [Dark Horse $3.50]

fall of the hulks alpha 1

Fall of the Hulks Alpha – Hit and Miss. Marvel’s next big event (“Fall of the Hulks”) begins here with a group of super-villains (The Leader, The Wizard, Egghead, MODOK, Mad Thinker, Red Ghost, Doctor Doom) who, apparently, have been working together behind the scenes for years to grab knowledge and power from the lost the Library of Alexandria and other sources. It promises more than it delivers, but at least we now know at least who the Red Hulk is working for. [Marvel $3.99]

blackest night 5

Green Lantern #48 / Blackest Night #5 (of 8) – Hit and Miss. The color corps is finally assembled (in GL #48) and returns to Earth (in BN #5) to take on Nekron and his legion of Black Lanterns. The Green Lantern story is superior, but the second does give us Zombie Batman and several other new recruits (plus the following quote: “I think I saw this on a Saturday morning cartoon.”). Not great by any means, but since a large part of Blackest Night has be largely unreadable at least this is an improvement. [DC $2.99/$3.99]
