Supergirl turned 50 this year, so before we say goodbye to 2009 we’ll take the opportunity to wish Superman’s cousin, Ms. Kara Zor-El, a very happy birthday.
Coincidentally this year also marks the 25th anniversary of the Supergirl feature film starring Helen Slater. Though far from the best comic book movie (and stuck with a ridiculous plot and villain in Faye Dunaway) the film did introduce us Slater (who dyed her hair blonde for the role) and clad her in a Supergirl costume for much of the 105 minute running time.
Okay… so it’s not all bad.
CBR has a short interview with the actress discussing her remembrances of the film fans may want to check out.
Whatever her incarnation (whether super cousin, synthetic lifeform, Linda Danvers, or various TV versions) Supergirl has become a staple of the DCU (no matter how many times they attempt to get rid of her), and hopefully she’ll be around for many more years to come.
Happy Birthday Supergirl!
