Happy Birthday to Gil Kane (and my Mom!)

Today marks the birthday of Gil Kane who, along with writer John Broome, created one of my favorite comic characters of all-time: Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern.

Kane is responsible for the iconic design of the character, including his trademark green and black costume. Though it has been tweaked over the years the costume still kicks as much ass today as when Kane designed it back in the early days of the Silver Age.

I’ll also take this opportunity to wish my mother a very happy birthday. Although she didn’t have a hand in creating GL, she did buy me more than my share of Green Lantern comics over the years. (If that isn’t a mother’s love I don’t know what is).

Happy Birthday!
