Seeing as both lintly and I are proud fans of Psych it only makes sense to spend a moment celebrating the show’s return for a fifth season. The opener, entitled “Romeo and Juliet and Juliet” involves rival Chinese Triad families, kidnapping, and a pair of star-crossed lovers. Here’s a clip of Shawn and Gus stealthily tracking a ninja (and not so stealthily breaking into his lair). The new season continues tonight on USA.

You guys made a few posts about Psych saying that it was awesome, and that was enough to get me to download all the previous seasons before I started watching the 5th. Man… SUCH a great show! I got to the end of season 4 and was looking forward to catching up so I could see it each week. But I have to ask….

…what the hell is up with season 5???

Did they get new writers or something, because it just doesn’t seem to have the same…. feel. I even got my dad to start watching the seasons I downloaded. Halfway through the first season he said this was his new favorite show and immediately set his DVR to start recording the new episodes. Not having seen all of the previous season, even he was disappoint with the newer episodes. So I know it’s not just me.

I’d agree things seem to be slightly off this season, due primarily with changing Henry Spencer’s role and how Shawn and Gus deal with the police (though I did like the episode where they change things up with Shawn and Juliet teaming up trying to solve the case before Lassiter and Gus). It’s just taking them longer to get Gus and Shawn into each case now, but once they do things start picking up.

The “do nothing” approach to Shawn and Juliet now that Rachel Leigh Cook has left the show has been nagging me. I didn’t expect them to get thrown together immediately, but it seems the awkward state of their relationship should have been acknowledged or discussed in some manner. It seems like that entire storyline got paused and forgotten about.
