We were all saddened to hear that Leslie Nielsen died from complications from pneumonia at a hospital near his home this past weekend. To many he’s recognizable only for his comedic performances in Airplane! and as Detective Frank Drebin from Police Squad! and The Naked Gun franchise (and cameos in many recent spoof flicks). Nielsen actually started out as a dramatic actor (even studying in New York City at the Actors Studio). And I’ll always remember him for captaining the sci-fi classic take on Shakespeare’s The Tempest – Forbidden Planet. (A must-see for those who don’t know it!)

Thanks for the memories, Leslie. Surely, you will be missed.*

Leslie Nielsen (February 11, 1926 – November 28, 2010)

*I do apologize for calling you Shirley.
