Sadly, The Doctor has lost another companion. Actress Mary Tamm, best known to Doctor Who fans as the first Romana, has died at the age of 62 after loosing an 18 month battle with cancer. Tamm’s career spanned nearly 40 years in television and film including Brookside, Paradise Heights, The Assassination Run, The Odessa File, and The New Adventures of Robin Hood.

She was one of my favorite companions.

She was one of the few companions that actually felt like The Doctor’s equal (and the only one to also be a Time Lord, if a somewhat less experienced one). It’s the kind of relationship they might have explored on the new show if they had kept Jenny around.

And I’ll admit I prefer her version of the character than that of Lalla Ward.

As do I, except Ward eventually married Richard Dawkins (after being introduced by Douglas Adams), so Ward wins all the cool points.
