A new full-length trailer for Iron Man 3 has arrived featuring Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) trying to protect the woman he loves (Gwyneth Paltrow) and the planet from a terrorist known as the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). A couple of points: 1) I’m pretty mixed on the look of the Iron Patriot on screen, 2) The Mandarin without his magic rings sounds pretty unimpressive, and 3) Why does Iron Man’s armor look worse instead of better in each successive film? Who designed this look, DC’s New 52? Guy PearceRebecca HallDon CheadleJon FavreauWilliam Sadler, and James Badge Dale also star. Iron Man 3 opens in theaters on May 3rd.

Not sure what you mean with your second point, “The Mandarin without his magic rings sounds pretty unimpressive”. He clearly has the rings, are you saying they’re not magic?

From the rumors/spoilers I’ve read, everyone seems to say Mandarin won’t have much on-screen presence, so perhaps he won’t have the chance/need to use the rings. Especially if Killian is the ‘active’ bad guy.

From what I’ve heard the rings are decorative, nothing more (unless Marvel’s done an amazing job keeping this secret under wraps).

Just did some reading up and yes, it appears the “10 rings” refers to the organization. Apparently Favreau has been against the magic/technology aspect of the rings, saying it wouldn’t work. That would make Mandarin pretty weak, then, or as you put it – “unimpressive”. I agree.

In other news, why doesn’t Iron Patriot know how to land gracefully? He’s obviously showing up to an official event, can’t he manage a proper, dignified landing?
