Trailer time – Les nuits rouges du bourreau de jade

It’s a little NSFW (and even more bizarre) but this trailer for the French/Hong Kong thriller Les nuits rouges du bourreau de jade does have style.

Classic Star Wars, jumbo-style

From Gentle Giant come these 12″ Jumbo figures crafted from digital scans of the original Kenner figures. They’re limited in quantity (and pretty damn pricey at $85 a pop), but oh so cool. Other figures include Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Sand People and Jawas, Walrus Man, Greedo and Hammerhead.

The Great Songs: Motor Away

With The Great Songs series, my aim is simple: To offer up a different set of tunes as classic canon. Sometimes, the listmania that I suffer from is capitalized on by big mainstream outlets–everyone from Rolling Stone and Spin to VH1 and any number of cool British mags.

Critical consensus is a dangerous thing, so while you may see a couple songs on this list that pop up on other mainstream lists of important and classic rock tunes, most of theses choices will not be there.

Guided by Voices is a band that fits perfectly into the idea of The Great Songs. Every now and then a song comes around that is so perfect; so stunningly different in its simplicity that it makes you feel energized about the possibilities of rock music all over again. “Motor Away” is one of those songs.

The art of Eduardo San Gil

Eduardo San Gil has a fun collection of pop culture art including pieces inspired by Star Wars, Pac-Man, The A-Team, Tron, Clockwork Orange, and more. He’s also the brain behind the clever idea of Space Invaders chopped into Tetris pieces. Check out a couple pieces after the jump and take a gander at a pair of galleries here and here.

A Light in the Darkness – Part One

There are fan films and then there are fan films. A Light in the Darkness follows a young rebel soldier who as a young boy watched as the Jedi who saved his people killed by the very clones who once fought by his side. Star Wars fans will want to give “Part One” a long look. (Part Two is on the way.) For a fan film this is simply gorgeous, and puts more than a few Hollywood films to shame.
