I do have to wonder if this is the second issue Marvel Comics and writer Nick Spencer had planned. I have no doubt the story existed, but given the backlash of the first issue I am curious as to whether this story was fast-tracked as it gives away pretty much every secret of the new series in only its second issue.

Marvel’s new Captain America series is getting press for one huge reveal, but we’ll get to that in a second. For those who haven’t been paying attention, Steve Rogers has spent the last several months rapidly aged to a senior citizen with the Falcon taking over the role of Captain America. With Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 Steve is back in action along with the Falcon (still also Captain America, but not in this comic), and a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents including Agent 13, Jack Flag, Free Spirit, and Rick Jones.

The most ambitious Marvel Studios’ movie to date, Captain America: Civil War attempts to merge aspects of Marvel’s two best movies (The Avengers and Captain America: Winter Soldier) into a cohesive whole while telling a very streamlined version of the comic event of the same name. You know what? It’s pretty damn good. It may not be the best of the Marvel movies, but it’s certainly more successful than Avengers: Age of Ultron and halts the backslide we’ve been witnessing in the quality of the Marvel films since Winter Soldier.

Some valid points, but I still kinda like this low-budget version of Captain America.

Captain America: Civil War – Trailer IN LEGO

We now have our first trailer for Captain America: Civil War. Based on the more than six-month comic series that pitted hero against hero over a proposed Super-Hero Registration Act, the film brings back all the familiar faces from Captain America: The Winter Soldier including Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), and the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) along with a few more of the Avengers in Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), War Machine (Don Cheadle), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). The trailer also gives us our first real look at the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6th.

captain-america-winter-soldier-blu-ray

Seeing Captain America: The Winter Soldier in the theaters my initial reaction was that the Captain America: The First Avenger sequel was an improvement over the first film and one of Marvel Studio’s best efforts. I’m happy to say the movie holds up on Blu-ray. I actually enjoyed it a little more the second time around.

The wide sweeping conspiracy of Hyrda begins sweeping changes in the overall Marvel Universe, immediately effecting Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (leading to the TV show’s strongest episodes), but more than that The Winter Soldier is a good Captain America story full of strong performances (making great use of Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow) along with plenty of intrigue and action. Sure the movie wastes Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and the final battle feels a bit too much like a video game with infiltrating and swapping out the chips in hovercrafts of death, but those don’t detract from a strong storyline filled with plenty of comic book goodness. For more on the movie read my original review.
