This demo shows a prototype projector based touchscreen attached to a laptop. It’s a pretty good idea, although some of the use cases they show are impossible and/or ridiculous.

If this is ever commercialized, I think where we’ll actually see it is attached to cheap all-in-ones that are designed to provide a bigger screen and keyboard for your handheld computer. Smart phones can already replace laptops for most people; imagine setting your phone down in front of a monitor, and a keyboard and touchpad are projected on the table while the phone’s browser and apps are on the monitor. Pretty cool.
