glee-opening-night-01

Opening night of Funny Girl finally arrives for Rachel (Lea Michele). Kurt (Chris Colfer) takes away the cell phone of his panicking roommate to create a “bubble of love” in the hours leading up to her Broadway debut with the help of several other former members of New Directions. After Tina‘s (Jenna Ushkowitz) comments spiral Rachel’s anxiety attack even further down the rabbit hole, Kurt calls on Blaine, (Darren Criss), Sam (Chord Overstreet), and Mercedes (Amber Riley) to try and rebuild her confidence. But it’s Santana (Naya Rivera) who ends up having just the right words to get her out of bed, forget the negative gossip blogs, and take her rightful place on stage.

Using her friendship with Sue (Jane Lynch) to her advantage, Holly Holiday (Gwyneth Paltrow) convinces McKinley’s principal to give Holly and April Rhodes (Kristin Chenoweth)  one week to try and find a way to “shoehorn music” into the existing clubs following the end of Glee Club. This leads to Holly’s performance of Eddie Murphy‘s “Party All The Time” during a meeting of the school’s Animal Husbandry Club which, of course, fails miserably leaving Will (Matthew Morrison) no choice but admit defeat and close the choir room for the final time (but not before we get a host of new and recreated numbers for the show’s 101st episode and the past and current members of New Directions coming together to create a short film thanking Mr. Shue and offering their look at the teacher who changed their lives for his future daughter or son).

glee-100-1

For the show’s 100th episode, and to commemorate the end of the Glee Club at McKinley High School, Glee welcomes current and former members of New Directions (plus a few familiar guest-stars) to reinterpret several of the show’s more memorable numbers over its previous 99 episodes (several of which were chosen by a fan vote) for this week as well as next week’s 101st episode.

Nationals arrive in a melancholy 99th episode as the New Directions heads to Los Angeles to defend their national championship with the future existence of the Glee Club on the line. Armed with a mission to win one for Finn (Cory Monteith), whose parents (Mike O’MalleyRomy Rosemont) accompany the team as chaperones, and rising to the challenge presented to him by Mr. Shue (Matthew Morrison), Sam (Chord Overstreet) leads the team into competition against Throat Explosion and The Amazonians.

glee-frenemies

Friends become enemies as Sue (Jane Lynch) pits Jake (Jacob Artist) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) against each other for class valedictorian and in New York Santana (Naya Rivera) puts her relationship with Rachel (Lea Michele) in jeopardy becoming her understudy for Funny Girl (because she’s the same age, and not in any way the same type, of the girl the producers chose despite thinking she was too young for the role?), and then taking credit for all of Rachel’s success. Meanwhile Kurt (Chris Colfer) frets over Starchild’s (Adam Lambert) influence over the band and New Directions settles on solos for Nationals.
