A sequel of sorts, The LEGO Batman Movie may not be quite as good as The LEGO Movie but it still proves to be a hell of a good time. Centered around Batman‘s (Will Arnett) inability to trust and rely on others, the film’s plot throws the Dark Knight Detective several curveballs including an adopted son in the energetic Dick Grayson (Michael Cera) combined with the retirement of Commissioner James Gordon (Hector Elizondo), who is replaced by his daughter Barbara (Rosario Dawson), and a new plot by the Joker (Zach Galifianakis) which throws Batman’s life into turmoil.

Comic-Con debuted the first full-length trailer for the upcoming LEGO Batman movie which… how do I say this, doesn’t exactly look Bat-tastic (it’s February release date isn’t promising either). Will Arnett returns to reprise his role as Batman from The LEGO Movie as Batman takes in an orphan named Dick Grayson (Michael Cera) to be his partner. The Lego Batman Movie opens in theaters February 10th.

lego-justice-league-gotham-city-breakoutAnother lukewarm entry to the LEGO DC Super Heroes line, Justice League: Gotham City Breakout features two separate stories. First, Nightwing (Will Friedle) and Batgirl (Sarah Hyland) convince Batman (Troy Baker) to finally take a vacation leaving Gotham City in the hands of Superman (Nolan North). The trip to visit his old teacher Madame Mantis (Amy Hill) unveils a plot by Deathstroke (John DiMaggio) and Bane (Eric Bauza) to use a normally peaceful underground tribe to take over the world. While providing its moments, the adventure begins to drag during its second-half.

The other storyline features Superman having more trouble with the super-villains of Gotham City than he expected. Tricked by the Joker (Jason Spisak), Superman accidentally causes a break-out at Arkham Asylum. Even calling on the help of Cyborg (Khary Payton) and Wonder Woman (Grey Griffin), the heroes struggle to stop the chaos eventually allowing Robin (Scott Menville) to show them what crime-fighting in Gotham is all about.

dc-lego-justice-league-vs-bizarro-league-blu-rayA LEGO Justice League movie? Okay, you’ve got my attention. The only real negative to LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League is its length. Clocking in around 45-minutes it’s a stretch to say you’re getting your moneys worth with this new LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes “movie.” That doesn’t mean there isn’t an awful lot of fun to be had for fans of LEGO and DC Comics.

The plot takes place after the events of Batman Be-Leaguered (also included here as a nice extra) as a distrustful Batman (Troy Baker) has joined the Justice League which now faces a new threat with the return of Bizarro (Nolan North) who creates Bizarro duplicates of the other members of the Justice League to help him save the lifeless odd square-shaped planet which Darkseid (Tony Todd) has taken an interest in because of the powerful crystals Superman (North) has convinced Bizarro are helpless citizens he needs to protect.

Despite refusing to join the Justice League, Batman is forced to investigate when the various core members begin mysteriously disappearing beginning with Superman. Much like the LEGO Batman games LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes – Batman: Be-Leaguered features the same humor and LEGO-style action fans have come to love. And I was also pleased to discover the classic take on all members of the Justice League rather than the New 52 versions which apparently be making their first appearance in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.

Ready for some crime fighting, chum? LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham also includes 60s Bat-villains, Martian Manhunter, Bat-Mite, Booster Gold, Krypto, and Plastic Man (who apparently can turn into various objects including a plane).
