Jason Lee has returned to TV Tuesday night with a new series on TNT. In Memphis Beat Lee stars as a workaholic cop with a profound love for the city of Memphis (and even moonlights as an Elvis impersonator). Bascially, it’s the show Nic Cage would do if he weren’t such a big “star.” The cast also boats the talents of DJ Qualls and Alfre Woodard. It’s quirky, a little different, and has some southern charm (even if some of the cast struggles with an appropriate accent). Given enough time the show might be okay, and I’ll give it a couple of more episodes, but it sure feels like a paycheck for some talented actors before they move on to something better.
